US Tesla wiring ≠
European tail lights

US-spec Model 3 and Y ('17–'20) ship with red rear turn signals and combined brake/turn wiring. Install European or aftermarket tail lights with amber turn signals — and the car's firmware doesn't know how to drive them properly.

Turn signal + brake light fire together

Press the brake and both signals come on at once. The car treats the amber section as part of the brake light and lights it red along with the rest.

Fails homologation & inspection

For ECE/EU homologation, MOT, TÜV or any local roadworthiness inspection, a turn signal that also flashes the brake is an immediate fail. The adapter makes the car legal again.

Installation

Pull back the trunk trim

Pop off the side trim panel in the trunk near the tail light — the factory connector is right there. No need to remove the lamp itself.

Step

Plug the adapter in between

Disconnect the factory connector from the tail light. One end of the adapter clicks into the car connector, the other into the lamp. Audible click confirms a solid fit.

Step

Refit the trim panel

Snap the trim panel back in place. Done. Test: turn signal and brake light now work independently.

Can I install it myself or do I need a shop?
Anyone comfortable with interior trim panels can install it. You pop off the side trim panel in the trunk near the tail light — the factory connector is right there. The adapter clicks between the car connector and the tail light, and the trim panel goes back on. No need to remove the lamp itself. We'll send a step-by-step video over Telegram after you order.
Does it work with aftermarket lights (Hansshow, Spec-D, JYL, etc.)?
Yes. The adapter is universal and works with all popular aftermarket amber-turn tail lights, including Hansshow Eagle, Spec-D, JYL, Starlink and OEM-EU lights. Not sure? Send us a photo of the connector and we'll confirm.
Will Tesla OTA updates break the setup?
No. The adapter is a physical device working at the wire/signal level, not in the car's firmware. Tesla OTA updates have no effect on it. Unlike software-based coding or CAN-bus hacks — those really can break with an update.
